The First Disciples

3 Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there.

4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.”


Simon Peter was a professional fisherman. Yet on this night he had caught no fish.

Jesus told Peter … you must go deeper. To be a disciple … a follower of Jesus Christ, we must be ready and willing to go deeper.

Deeper study … deeper sacrifice … deeper service. The follower of Jesus Christ will submit to the authority of the LORD, humble themselves and go deeper.
