BODY, SOUL AND SPIRIT

1 Thessalonians 5:23-28

Paul’s Final Greetings

23 Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. 24 God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful.

25 Dear brothers and sisters, pray for us.

26 Greet all the brothers and sisters with Christian love.

27 I command you in the name of the Lord to read this letter to all the brothers and sisters.

28 May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

We conclude our journey through Paul’s 1st letter to the Church at Thessalonica with Paul’s final greetings. You may jump to the idea that there is nothing to learn in the concluding verses but Paul is still teaching. Don’t miss the nugget in verse 23.

An often misunderstood concept is that of our being ‘three-part’ beings … body, soul and spirit. The distinction between soul and spirit is often missed.

  • Body – our flesh
  • Soul – our mind, will, emotions and conscience
  • Spirit – that part of us that cannot be reached in any natural way (five senses or mind/emotions, etc.)

“Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.” – John 3:6

Change takes place in the body and the mind. That is relatively easy to grasp (aging, learning, etc.) Change that happens in the spirit, only happens through God … His Spirit … His Word. “God will make this happen…”. Let Him keep ALL of you blameless.
