THE FRUITS OF TROUBLE

Romans 5:3-4

Faith Brings Joy

3 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. 4 And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. 5 And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

Face it. No one enjoys trouble. We would love to live our lives free of problems and trials but unfortunately, because of sin, they are an ever-present part of life. The Apostle Paul gives us insight on troubles, not from a natural perspective but from the spiritual. God uses these trials and tribulations to produce fruit in our lives.

What are the fruits produced by our troubles?

  • Endurance … to ride out the storm.
  • Strength of character … when the lost see the positive character traits of the faithful, in spite of our trouble, they see Christ in us.
  • Hope of salvation … when God brings us through life’s troubles, it gives us the confidence to face the ultimate trial (death) with the assurance of eternity in His presence.

The next time trouble comes, focus on and thank God for the fruit!
