WRONG CONCLUSION

“What things?” Jesus asked. “The things that happened to Jesus, the man from Nazareth,” they said. “He was a prophet who did wonderful miracles. He was a mighty teacher, highly regarded by both God and all the people. But our leading priests and other religious leaders arrested him and handed him over to be condemned to death, and they crucified him. We had thought he was the Messiah who had come to rescue Israel. That all happened three days ago. Then some women from our group of his followers were at his tomb early this morning, and they came back with an amazing report. They said his body was missing, and they had seen angels who told them Jesus is alive! Some of our men ran out to see, and sure enough, Jesus’ body was gone, just as the women had said.”

Luke 24:19-24

Instead of watching all the Super Bowl pre-game shows this past Sunday, I re-watched the Will Smith movie “Independence Day” for the ‘um-teenth’ time. Do you remember the scene near the end, they have flown the crashed spacecraft back to the mothership, uploaded the computer virus, are ready to blow up the mothership with the nuclear bomb set with the 30-second delay? The only problem is their escape craft is being held by the mothership and they can’t get away. Will pulls out his victory cigar and lights it, figuring that they will blow up the mothership but will not escape to tell about it. Wrong conclusion! As soon as they deploy the bomb, their spacecraft is shaken loose. They are free to escape before the bomb explodes. Will cries out, “It ain’t over ‘til the fat lady sings.”

For the disciples, they came to a wrong conclusion. The life story of Jesus did not end at the crucifixion. He is Messiah and He did rescue Israel and all mankind from the bondage of sin. He did rise from the dead with all power over Satan in His hands.

“It still ain’t over …” Jesus is coming back again. Don’t let the problems and circumstances of your today lead you to a wrong conclusion. Jesus is Messiah and He has set you free!
