SHOW NO FAVORITISM

My dear brothers and sisters, how can you claim that you have faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ if you favor some people more than others? … For there will be no mercy for you if you have not been merciful to others. But if you have been merciful, then God’s mercy toward you will win out over his judgment against you.

James 2:1, 13

In society, there appears to be a widening gap between the ‘haves’ and the ‘have nots’. James, the brother of Jesus and leader of the 1st century church, makes it clear that this is not pleasing to God. To get the full impact of his warning, read all of James 2:1-13.

It is very easy to judge a person by their outward appearance … how they look … what brand clothes they wear … what make and model car they drive … even what zip code is on the driver’s license. None of these things are factors in the condition of their soul. God wants His church to be concerned whether they know His Son and do they have a personal relationship with Him. In fact, James’ warning seems to indicate that the showing of favoritism brings into question the condition of your faith walk.

Hi Rev. Willie,
Just wanted to let you know I read your blog and enjoy it. I find them very helpful and often read something that I didn't know or hadn't thought of before (like this one). Thank you!
