Isaiah’s Cleansing and Call

9 And he said, “Yes, go, and say to this people,
‘Listen carefully, but do not understand.
Watch closely, but learn nothing.’

I have shared with you over the last couple days two aspects of effective communication … speaking and listening. When God called Isaiah, He mentions both of these and adds a third. There must also be understanding.

You can speak and no understanding take place. “I spoke my mind.” You can listen without grasping what is being said. “I heard him out.”

No effort has been made to understand. No effective communication has taken place. Let’s try harder to speak, listen AND understand each other.
