BUSINESS DURING THE HOLIDAYS

… Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David’s ancient home. He traveled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee. He took with him Mary, his fiancée, who was obviously pregnant by this time. And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. She gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the village inn.

Luke 2:4-7

On that first Christmas, the inn keeper was doing a booming business because of the census which had been ordered by the Roman emperor, Augustus. Today, the holidays are critical times for many businesses. I spoke to one business owner who shared with me that seventy-five percent of their annual business is done during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Being successful during the holidays makes or breaks their year. At the other end of the spectrum are businesses whose products or services are not related to holiday celebrations. They have to survive the holidays until folks stop traveling or celebrating and ‘get back to normal’. Either situation can be cause for anxious days.

The Apostle Peter wrote, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” This Christmas, no matter whether your business is positively or negatively affected by the season, cast your cares on Jesus. There is nothing He doesn’t want to hear from you about, including your business.

And now that you are no longer anxious, focus on the fact that Jesus is the reason for the season.
