DON’T BE GREEDY

Then he said, “Beware! Don’t be greedy for what you don’t have. Real life is not measured by how much we own.” … “But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get it all? Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.”

Luke 12:15, 20-21

Greed is a sin.

Having money or gaining material possessions in itself is not sinful. You cross the line with God when you place these earthly things ahead of your relationship with Him. Today’s scripture verses are taken from Jesus’ parable about the rich fool. He had a problem with greed. He put all his focus on what he could store in his barns. The rich fool could only focus on this life … on what it would take to ‘…eat, drink and be merry.’

This is the modern day problem of the ‘work-a-holic’. Many a marriage has been ruined because one partner is more focused on the dollar than on the marriage relationship. How much more true is this of the peril greed presents to our relationship with God!

Satan has many traps. Jesus say, “Beware! Don’t be greedy…”
