ETERNAL RESCUE

I think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went through in the province of Asia. We were crushed and completely overwhelmed, and we thought we would never live through it. In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we learned not to rely on ourselves, but on God who can raise the dead. And he did deliver us from mortal danger. And we are confident that he will continue to deliver us. He will rescue us because you are helping by praying for us.

2nd Corinthians 1:8-11b

Memories are so important. Often, throughout the Old Testament, the nation of Israel is reminded of its history. They are prompted to remember how God rescued them from their slavery in Egypt. The Exodus theme is replayed through the history, literary and prophetic writings.

How often has God rescued you? Keeping a journal of the times when trouble came to your life and God rescued you, delivered you, is a great way to hold onto those memories. From your personal history you can remind yourself when trouble comes again. The same God who rescued you in your past is there to help you in your present situation.

There is also the assurance from God’s word that promises you a final rescue. Faith in Jesus Christ carries with it the promise of eternal life. There is nothing else comparable to God’s eternal rescue plan!
