AN HONEST ANSWER

Now, who will want to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don’t be afraid and don’t worry. Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if you are asked about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it. But you must do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak evil against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ. Remember, it is better to suffer for doing good, if that is what God wants, than to suffer for doing wrong!

1st Peter 3:13-17

It is said that it is very difficult to con a convict. They ask questions. They observe everything going on around them. They are on the lookout for a con. As they closely inspect you, dissecting everything you say, if you are found to be anything other than real, you have lost all credibility.

Such is the life in prison. Trust is a very uncommon occurrence. Prisoners live in an environment where they expect to be lied to, cheated or abused. This is why it is so important to always give an honest answer. Never get caught in a lie.

What is the answer you have “about your Christian hope”? Are you “ready to explain it in a gentle and respectful way”? When sharing this answer in prison, the inmates are looking for the con. The only good answer is an honest answer.

Guess what? That is true whenever or wherever you share your faith!
