FOLLOW THE LEADER

Then all the people began weeping aloud, and they cried all night. Their voices rose in a great chorus of complaint against Moses and Aaron. “We wish we had died in Egypt, or even here in the wilderness!” they wailed. “Why is the LORD taking us to this country only to have us die in battle? Our wives and little ones will be carried off as slaves! Let’s get out of here and return to Egypt!” Then they plotted among themselves, “Let’s choose a leader and go back to Egypt!”

In the children’s game, Follow the Leader, the goal of the child is to listen carefully to the verbal instructions and do only those actions which the leader gives instructions. The leader will throw in some actions, without instructions, to try to eliminate the child who is not paying close attention.

In the Christian life, our instructions are in the Bible. Those instructions warn us about false teachers who will come with words which are contrary to the instructions God has provided. The believer is to carefully consider the words and actions of the leader and determine whether they line up with the instructions given by the LORD.

We must choose carefully the leader we will follow. At risk is our relationship with God. Is the earthly leader following our heavenly Father?
