MAKE THE FIRST MOVE

“This is how I want you to conduct yourself in these matters. If you enter your place of worship and, about to make an offering, you suddenly remember a grudge a friend has against you, abandon your offering, leave immediately, go to this friend and make things right. Then and only then, come back and work things out with God.
“Or say you’re out on the street and an old enemy accosts you. Don’t lose a minute. Make the first move; make things right with him. After all, if you leave the first move to him, knowing his track record, you’re likely to end up in court, maybe even jail. If that happens, you won’t get out without a stiff fine.

Matthew 5:23-26 (The Message Bible)

My Utmost for His Highest - 09/26/06

In the midst of an argument with a friend, our natural inclination is to wait for the other person to make the first move. As is so often the case, this is exactly the opposite of God’s instructions. For the believer … the follower of Christ … it is their responsibility to make the first move. When prompted by the indwelling Holy Spirit they are to immediately “…make the first move; make things right…”

Has this thought brought something to mind for you? Is there someone who you need to go to and make things right?

Make the first move! Do it today!
